Sexual Violence is defined as an act in which a person intentionally touches another person without that person's consent in a sexual manner, or coerces or physically forces a person to engage in a sexual act against their will. Sexual violence can include rape, groping, child sexual abuse, and/or the torture of the person in a sexual manner.
Statistics show that 1 in every five women and 1 in every 71 men will be raped at some point in their lives, and 1 in every 4 girls and 1 in every 6 boys will be sexually abused before they turn 18 years old.
Our goal for the Sexual Assault Division at One Place of the Shoals is to enhance services to victims of violence, educate the community, and provide resources, referrals, and outreach to those affected by Sexual Violence. We have a vision of a world free from adult, child, and elder sexual abuse. We want to transform society’s response to victims of sexual assault and end this violence forever.
